West Ham player ratings vs Chelsea: Aaron Cresswell the hero as David Martin keeps clean sheet
Manuel Pellegrini's team looked transformed at Stamford Bridge to seal a first win since September
David Martin Making his first Premier League appearance at 33 years old. Every routine save was cheered by the visiting supporters but apart from first-half attempts from Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic he did not actually have much to do. Still, this was West Ham's first clean sheet since Lukasz Fabianski was injured and there can be no doubt that he is a much better option than the hapless Roberto. 6
Ryan Fredericks Good block to deny Christian Pulisic midway through the opening period and rarely caught out of position. Made few ventures forward - especially after West Ham took the lead. 6
Fabian Balbuena Defended astutely, keeping Olivier Giroud very quiet. At the opposite end had a powerful header from a Snodgrass corner brilliantly palmed away by Kepa nearing the hour mark. 7
Angelo Ogbonna Suffered a worrying back injury late in first half but fine to continue after some magic spray. Much like Balbuena, did a fine job in keeping Giroud silent for the 70 minutes the France striker was on the pitch. Appeared to head everything away. 6
Aaron Cresswell The match-winning hero. He had few opportunities to get forward but made the crucial foray count. The finish was impressive, tucked low to the right of the goal, but it was the turn to send Reece James into another postcode that made it. Before that had set Antonio up with a good early cross and did well defensively up against a poor Pedro and the former Spain international's replacement Willian. Booked for time wasting in added time 8
Declan Rice Up against his best friend Mason Mount for the first time. A performance best summed up by Mount having no time or space to create. Did the simple things well, never overcomplicating matters 6
Mark Noble Dropped deeper to assist Rice. Produced one clever turn under pressure to buy some time and space late in first half and kept the ball moving on the rare occasions that West Ham enjoyed a spell of possession. 6
Robert Snodgrass Impressive. Set up Antonio for a good chance in the first half with a cross from the right but this was an afternoon where the Scotland international's work off the ball was more important. Dropped back in support of Fredericks and ensured Pulisic was unable to get one-on-one. 7
Felipe Anderson Seemed more involved than recent games thanks to the shift to No10. Played the key pass in the build-up to the goal and drove forward on the counter regularly. Replaced by Yarmolenko with 20 minutes to go. 6
Pablo Fornals Quiet opening period but laid the ball off to an overlapping Cresswell for his goal and showed a willingness to work hard defensively too. Taken off late on. 6
Michail Antonio Had a decent early chance from a Cresswell cross on the left but skied his attempt under pressure from Fikayo Tomori. Unlucky to see a goalbound header denied by an excellent Kepa stop. Was sometimes lonely up front but did well with limited supply. Found the net in the 67th minute but was rightly ruled out for handball following a VAR check. 6
Substitutes
Andry Yarmolenko (for Anderson, 71mins): Slotted in at No10 but almost all of his work involved chasing Chelsea players. 5
Sebastien Haller (for Antonio, 74): Not many touches but picked wrong option during one late counter when he tried to find Rice instead of Snodgrass on the opposite side of the penalty area. 5
Arthur Masuaku (for Fornals, 83): Introduced for the final few minutes as Chelsea poured everything forward.
